Cameron Highlands
|
|
|
On the western border
of Pahang, the Cameron Highlands nestles among
the central mountain range. Described as a
"little corner of England in Asia", the
cool green rolling hills attract a large number
of local and foreign visitors. It is renowned as
the main tea growing area in Malaysia, and the
producer of fresh vegetables. The Highlands,
1,524 meters above the sea-level and with
population of 20,000 lie in the northwest corner
of the state of Pahang. The resort is linked by a
winding metalled road to the town of Tapah on the
trunk road between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh. The air
becomes cooler as you go up and the vegetation
changes from palms to jungle growth. |

Tanah Rata's
Parit Waterfall:
Tanah
Rata, the main town, lies less than 13 kilometers
away, and another thousand feet up. The
scenery here is superb-cool clean air, jungle
streams, lakes and waterfalls. On a clear day one
can enjoy the view of the green mountains that
fade into distant blues. Tanah Rata's natural
assets have been well exploited. There are
chalets, cottages and good hotels, steak houses,
and all the privacy you could ever wish for.
There is a bank, a post office and a busy
shopping centre. There is also a bus service and
taxis are available. |
